Function / Content

This series consists of two types of files, authority to prospect files and permit to enter files. The files are arranged in a single number sequence with a prefix on some of the files indicating 'AP' for Authority to Prospect or 'PE' for Permit to Enter. Permit to enter files contain permits to enter private land for the purpose of prospecting in accordance with mining legislation. The permit files include the application to enter private land, which records the description of the area and the permit details for the permit holder. Authority to prospect files include applications which records the name of the permit holder, miner's right details, field or gold field location. Included in some files are maps and plans of the location, geologists' reports, correspondence, renewals and monthly progress reports.
